NFL-NCAA Partnership Hosts 2013 Life Skills Summit Roundtable, Features Flawless Execution® Training

Two fighter pilots delivered the communication and leadership training during the three-day summit in Charlotte, NC

Atlanta, February 19, 2013 — the innovative partnership between the NCAA and the NFL will prove more efficient in their organizational efforts following two dynamic keynotes from the top leadership development firm, Afterburner. Two of Afterburner's prominent fighter pilot consultants delivered the leadership training on the firm's Flawless Execution® model to more than 100 players, coaches, and program directors. The model consists of numerous interdependent parts, like the S.T.E.A.L.T.H. DebriefSM and the Six Steps of Mission PlanningSM that will equip the attendants with the tools to facilitate an honest, insightful dialogue. This was one of the missions of the summit in its efforts to ease the transition for NFL-bound college players from a world of relative eminence on the scholastic level to the overwhelming celebrity of professional sports.

The Roundtable is part of the NFL Player Engagement program, an ongoing effort by the league to address the physical and psychological needs of its players. By partnering together, both organizations are given an opportunity to preemptively address concerns by initiating an open dialogue on the topic. The Flawless Execution® model's Nameless, Rankless Debrief® is of particular importance to the program, allowing the NCAA and NFL to gain insight into the needs and concerns of student-athletes bound for the NFL. The Debrief is a safe forum for individuals to express issues and concerns free from ridicule.

The firm's acclaimed Flawless Execution® model was the highlight of both sessions. The model is a leadership improvement approach that unites military-proven processes with communication-centric management style. The model helps to foster a free flow of ideas and thoughts, allowing for an organization to address all the concerns of its constituents, providing a path to efficiency in process and communication.

Both fighter pilots have experience in the world of college football. F/A-18 Instructor Pilot Patrick "Lips" Houlahan played for the Citadel and F-16 Fighter Pilot Anthony "Roby" Roberson played, coached, and served as a national recruiting scout for the US Air Force Academy football program. The consultants' utilized their experiences to convey the model's applicability to the world of football, both on and off the field.

Afterburner has played a growing role in the Player Engagement program. The firm has worked with five top NFL teams, starting in 2012 with Superbowl XLVI Champions, the NY Giants. In using the Flawless Execution® model, the program can better equip current and future players with tools needed to prepare for the demands of a professional career. The nature of the communication-centric model allows it to be applied to large organizations across a wide array of industries or to a single individual. The model's core continuous improvement process of Plan.Brief.Execute.DebriefSM was developed to nurture a constant betterment of efficiency and quality of work while increasing communication and threat awareness.
