Afterburner® Fighter Pilots Featured at Alter Trading Corporation's Manager Meeting

Leaders from the scrap metal recycling company participated in the Leaning ForwardSM program in Chicago, IL

Atlanta, Feb. 20, 2013 — More than 120 leaders from Alter Trading Corporation were surprised to find their manager's meeting taken over by three fighter pilots from the leadership training firm, Afterburner Inc. As the consultants walked through the room announcing to the stunned crowd that their usual meeting was no more, Alter leaders were introduced to one of the firm's innovative programs, Leaning Forward®. Over the next four hours, the Afterburner fighter pilots led the group through an intensive training on the firm's dynamic Flawless Execution® model.

In a volume-driven industry, the ability to adapt to constant change is vital to the success of Alter. Founded over a century ago, Alter Trading Corp. is one of the largest metal recyclers in the country, and offers a wide variety of scrap metal solutions, from transportation solutions to radiation screening. The Leaning ForwardSM program will help to increase communication in the organization, a vital component in developing efficiency and productivity while eliminating situational threats. They were led through the program by three of Afterburner's top consultants: retired Blue Angel Pilot Scott "Intake" Kartvedt, F/A-18 fighter pilot John "Hitman" Hilterman, and C-141, C-21 Lear, F-16 instructor pilot Mary "Mojo" Rainaldi.

Following the keynote, the Leaning ForwardSM program allowed attendees to immediately apply the newly acquired training in a comprehensive Mission Planning Exercise. The experiential learning process began with the large group splitting into multiple squadrons that worked together to plan and execute a predetermined mission. Communication and full team participation were required to successfully complete the exercise, or teams risked failing the assignment. Participants learned the results of the Mission Planning Exercise upon finishing, followed by a comprehensive debrief that provided detailed feedback for the individual squadrons, as well as valuable insight into the way the company operates as a team.
